God Made Kids to Run
It is the girl's and I usual routine to stop by Dad's home office on Thursday mornings to get adjusted after our walk, and before we start school. Last Thursday, I told the girls we needed to be a little faster on the walk so we could see Dad, and get adjusted before he had to leave the house for an appointment. Julia began to run, and I said, "We don't have to go THAT fast." Apparently, she believes the ability to run goes away as you grow up. She turned around and said to me, "God made KIDS to run!", and then she left me in the dust.

P and Q
We were back to our old routine on the week of January 7th. We picked up where we left off before Christmas with our homeschooling. We started each morning with a walk around the lake. Once we got into the school room we had circle time, which included new winter-themed songs and verses, penny whistle lesson, and French lesson. On Monday, we also reviewed all Johanna had learned so far. After the review, I introduced her to the letter P by telling her the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, The Princess and the Pea.
After I read the story, we drew a picture in our lesson books. Johanna also drew the letter P with her block crayons.
On Tuesday, we played a color game to help review the colors and numbers in French. They each had a Lego person, um, alien, they created which they used for their markers.
We also reviewed the letter P using the wall card and poem from the LNMOP Manual, and then Johanna re-told me The Princess and the Pea. Afterward, I wrote a summary in her lesson book.
We also made some P penguins. Grant may be jealous when he sees these, as penguins are his favorite animal.(I found these fun letter activities on No Time for Flashcards and Totally Tots. We didn't do them with the letters before now, so we may go back and do the letters we have already covered as a review later in the year).
After I was done telling her the story, she wrote out the letter Q with block crayons, and we drew a picture from the story in our lesson books.
On Thursday, Johanna re-told me the story, and then I wrote a summary in her lesson book.
Once we were done with that, the girls did a fun Q activity. While I am not "officially" teaching Julia the letters, there is no way she would let Johanna do these fun letter crafts without her! Plus, it is a good way for her to get familiar with the letters.

On Wednesday, I introduced Johanna to the letter Q by telling her the Grimm's Fairytale, The Queen Bee.

Julia also wanted to draw a bee along with us, so here is hers.

They had some friends watching them.

I Shall Call Him Metal Kid.....
....and he will be mine.
Last week the girls found, and "adopted", this piece of metal they discovered in the debris of the fire pit. I told them it had probably been in a box that we burned in a fire. On Monday, they found him and showed me how he could cut through snow (the tiny amount we still had protected by shadows from the trees). I told them he needed to stay where they found him, and they left him there.
On Tuesday, they went to visit Metal Kid again, and I found them covering him with snow. The girls explained they were cooling him off since he had been burned in a fire. They decided to name him Metal Kid. Johanna suggested Metal Kid, Julia suggested Max, and I said, "How about Metal Max?" Johanna said, "We will call him Metal Kid, but his real name can be Metal Max." They decided it was a boy, and told him they would care for him since nobody else did. This time they took him on the walk with us and left him outside the school room with a stick that he could play with. Julia was concerned about him being out in the dark by himself at night, but I reminded her that he could look up at the moon and the stars.
They continued to think of Metal Kid more throughout the week, and collected pea gravel for him as a dessert, and discussed how sad it must be for him that the rest of his family was lost in a fire. Such care and concern for a rusty piece of metal from my little girls. Hopefully they will carry these attributes with them as they get older, and keep this sense of empathy as they deal with others in the people and animal world, lol!

Christmas Morning 2012
As usual, Grant was the first to wake Christmas morning. He came down to our room a little before 6:00 am. He tried to lay in our bed with us for a short while so Cory and I could get another half hour of sleep. "6:30," We told him. "We'll get up at 6:30." We may as well of gotten up, because he just laid there shaking his legs in excitement, eager to see what would be in his stocking. Cory and I finally indulged him and dragged ourselves out of bed so he could see what Santa brought him.
While he was going through his stocking, Johanna made her way down.
Cory had to go wake up Julia so she wouldn't be too far behind. She came down with eyes half shut, and some serious bed-head, but it didn't take long to wake up as she began to empty her stocking.
Once they finished seeing what Santa brought for them (a stocking full of goodies and one Lego set each), we opened our presents to each other.
The highly anticipated, and most asked for gift of Grant's Christmas, his iPod touch.
I couldn't pass up this gorilla piggy-bank for Johanna when I saw it in the store. She LOVED it!
Grant had a Christmas store at school where he picked out gifts for all of his family. He was excited to watch the girls (and everyone else, too) open the gift he bought for them. Zu-Zu Pets!
After opening all the presents, we enjoyed a nice breakfast, and the kids played with their new toys for a little while. Soon after, we headed back over to Grandma and Grandpa H's house to spend time with them and Uncle Jeff on Christmas Day. We had a wonderful Christmas!

Christmas Eve 2012
We spent a joyful Christmas Eve with my family at my Mom and Dad's house. We enjoyed an abundance of food, dare I say, too many cookies, and waaaaay too many presents.
I can see Abby definitely loves her Snow White doll we got for her at Disney World (I think it was lying on the floor about 30 seconds later). More presents to open, you know....

The girls LOVED their Christmas Barbies from Aunt Jill.
What an awesome Christmas!
