3. Go to Six Flags

The Friday following our evening at the botanical garden took us on another adventure to Six Flags Amusement Park.  This was no ordinary trip to the park, as it was also a surprise family reunion for Cory's mom.

The heat of the day was more bearable as we spent the first three hours in the water park. I even mustered up enough courage to get on a raft with Cory and Uncle Jeff and ride this crazy ride.

Once we had our fill of water fun, we made our way into the rest of the park, and enjoyed an action-packed day of rides!

 

 

Julia loved this ride, but wanted to go again because she didn't think she got wet enough!

The kids always have a blast at Six Flags.  I think the grown-ups did, too!

29. Go to Six Flags

On Sunday morning, Grant looked at our list of 50 days of summer fun and asked what we could do.  I suggested we all play frisbee which was quickly voted down by him.  He suggested we go to Six Flags.  Cory and I looked at each other and said it would be a perfect day to go.  The temperature was in the upper 70's, partly cloudy, not in the 100's like it had been over the past couple weeks.  So, we decided to take an impromptu trip to Six Flags-St.Louis.

Since it was our first trip to Six Flags as a family, we decided to buy the cheesy photo they take of you coming in the gate. It's always good for laugh later on.

Once inside the park, we rode a few "dry" rides as we worked our way around to the water park.  We only had one unpleasantry during the whole day.  The kids and I got in line for an indoor "Spooky Swamp" Scooby Doo ride.  Where we got in line, it said the estimated wait time was 30 minutes.  I was hopeful it would be less, as all the other lines so far had moved pretty fast.  Oh,no!  We were in that line for one hour!  Not to mention, we seemed to be at a standstill for 15-20 minutes of it as we were out in the sun (the clouds had broken up during this time)sandwiched between the building the ride was in, and some really high landscaped grasses and a fence on the other side.  We were roasting! We found out the ride would usually have two sides going, but they only had one side running until we were about 5 minutes from getting on. All things considered, the kids did really well for standing in that line for an hour.

After getting through that line, we ate lunch and headed straight for the water park.  Cory took all the kids out in the water for a little bit, then Grant and Cory wanted to do the slides and "the tornado".  It's the big blue and yellow ride you see in the background of one of the photos below.  Once Cory left with Grant, Johanna was happy to sit next to me and have a snack, while Julia would go back and forth from snack to play. 

We were in the water park for about 1 1/2 hours before making our way back into the main park.  We went into the special Looney Toons section for children, and the kids got to ride a lot of rides there. 

 We ended the night with a ride in the ferris wheel, and some ice cream in freshly made waffle cones. 

Yes.  That is a guy with pink hair and a tiara behind us.  He also had his sexual preference written in large letters on his shirt.  He was in line behind us, and Grant looked at him and asked me, "Is that a HE?"

 We left the park 15 minutes before it closed at 8:45 pm.  We had a GREAT time, and none of the kids had a problem falling asleep on the 1 1/2 hour ride home. I think Julia was asleep before we left the parking lot.
