Grant's 8th Birthday Party

The day began bright and (oh yeah, the sun wasn't up yet)early, for Grant on Saturday, April 2, 2011.  Grant was very excited to have his cousin, Brendan, and the rest of his family, down from Iowa all weekend for his birthday, and party which fell on the same day as his birthday. Grant and Brendan were up before the sun to open presents.

The table was set for his requested Birthday breakfast of waffles and bacon.

We had a Lego theme for Grant's party.

In the favor bags, we had Lego crayons, a Lego minifigure and chocolate bars with these custom wrappers:

While we were waiting for everyone to arrive, we dumped out a jar of Lego's on the floor and gave the kids sticky hands to "catch" Lego's and build things. I think the kids were more interested in flinging the Lego pieces around then they were with building things with them. They had a lot of fun with those sticky hands!

Obviously, something didn't go right for Johanna here:

After everyone arrived, we ate Grant's requested lunch of cheeseburgers, and lots of other tasty food.

Once everyone had finished eating, the kids played some more games.  First, we put all the Lego pieces back into the jar and the kids were asked to guess how many Lego's were inside.  There was a wide range of guesses!  The winner ended up being about 10 off.  After that we had a few Lego building competitions.  First, the kids had five minutes to build the tallest tower.  Makenna, with a little help from Mom, was the winner.  This little cutie chose the whoopy cusion as her prize.

Next, they had three minutes to build a bridge.  Everyone was a "winner" for the highest, longest, widest, etc., and got a sticker.

After we played the games, Grant opened his presents.

After he was done with that, we had cake.  I made Grant his requested "Broken Glass Cake" which is a vanilla wafer based crust topped with a mixture of whipped cream and jello cubes, finished of with another sprinkling of the crust mixture. I also made some regular chocolate and vanilla cupcakes for those people who weren't feeling adventurous.

After cake, everyone had some free time to play outside and enjoy the beautiful day.

I have to thank my brother-in-law Chris for taking the photos.  I actually made it into some pictures this time!

Everyone had a lot of fun, and we had three very dirty, tired kids that night. (Actually, four counting cousin Brendy.)

I can't believe my little boy is eight years old already!
