I also wanted to keep the parts of speech fresh in Grant's mind, so I read him these verses, and then we did a Mad Libs page.
I also read Johanna a story called "Little Brown Bulb", from Spring Tales by Suzanne Down.
It was a sweet story about a crocus bulb who was ready to take off her brown winter pajamas, and put on her colorful spring gown. After I read the story, Johanna and I drew pictures of crocus flowers. With this drawing, we focused on covering the whole page with color.

On Tuesday, Grant and I played tapatan again, and I read him the following poem called "The Four Sentences", just as a little review.
I also read Johanna this poem about spring flowers.
After I was done reading the poem, the girls made flowers out of spring-colored homemade play dough.
On Wednesday, Grant was out of the school room and into our local small town post office. It was interesting for him, not only to learn how the mail gets to and from our house, but also because our post office is 102 years old, used to a bank, and contains a lot of history - including the 102 year old bank safe (Grant's favorite part).
The picture below shows the year (the day and month are behind the keys), and the names of the men which were written on the wall in the safe on the first day the bank opened for business in 1910.
The following photos are of inspection stickers that were on the door of the safe. The dates on these go back to the 1920's.
The girls and I dropped Grant off at the post office, and the post master, Carol, called me to come pick him up. At that time, the girls and I got the tour as they showed us everything Grant had learned.
(This is the inside of the safe.)
Below he is pointing to our mail slot.
This is a work station in the back of the post office.
Grant's second favorite part was learning how to do money orders, and then demonstrating for the girls and I.
On Thursday, we were back into the school room. For math, Grant and I played the game of Yut. Yut is Parcheesi, Korean-style. This was also a strategy game, and Grant had a lot of fun figuring out the "best strategy" for winning.
He also made a thank you card for the post master.
I also read him the following verse, and let him fill in the answers to the questions. He got everything correct!
Grant also snuck into the "teacher's chair" while I was out of the room for a few minutes, and he was quickly joined by one of his furry friends.
Before I knew it, I had fairies hanging all over the plants.
On Friday, Grant finished his last field trip on occupations by going into his Dad's chiropractic office. It was a long day for Grant. He had to get up at 4:15 am to go into town with Cory, and work out with him before going to the office to have breakfast, get ready for work, and then start seeing patients with his Dad at 8:00 am.
The staff showed him all they do at the front desk.
A family friend even came in for an adjustment, so Grant got to "work" on him for a little bit.
I think this big smile is due to the 30 minute massage Grant had while he was in the office.
I think Grant had fun getting out of the school room over the past couple weeks. Next week we will back to an Old Testament Language Arts block with stories from the life of Moses.
