Well, we didn't do any camping, but we did cook our dinner over the fire on Friday night. It was a beautiful evening and I thought it would be fun for the kids. Here we are waiting for the flames to die down and the coals to heat up (can you spot Boji watching from the window):
Ooo, Mom are these hot dogs??
Soldier Grant
I made baked beans and put them in foil packets, which we put right into the coals of the fire to cook.
While those were cooking, we roasted hot dogs. Notice Julia's lunging, roasting stance. It didn't last long because she would drop her hot dogs on the ground, so Dad took over for her.
While we were eating our hot dogs and baked beans, we cooked the dessert packets. One packet had diced apples, raisins, honey, butter and cinnamon. The other had a banana with one section peeled back, sliced into 1-inch slices then every other slice was removed and chocolate put in it's place. I made one with white chocolate and one with semi-sweet chocolate. Both of the dessert recipes were supposed to have marshmallows in them, but we didn't have any and they were still yummy. The bananas were definitely the favorite of the kids.
After we finished eating and cleaning up we sat around the fire snuggled in blankets. The kids went in for a bath, and then we all came back out to sit by the fire and look up at the stars on a perfect, clear night. We are still amazed by all the stars you can see out here in the middle of nowhere!
