Nest Building

There is a lot of bird related activity out here this time of year.  In addition to our regular visitors of:

Cardinals
Goldfinches
Red-bellied woodpeckers
Downy woodpeckers
Hairy woodpeckers
House finches
Morning Doves
Blue Herons
Turkey Vultures
Red-tailed hawks
Cowbirds
Northern Flickers
Blue Jays
Red-breasted nuthatches
Barred Owls
Tufted Titmouses
Black-capped Chickadees
Junkos
Turkeys

In the Spring, we also see these birds as they pass through, or even stay a little longer to build nests and hang out for awhile.

Ducks
Geese
Indigo Buntings
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Eastern Bluebirds
Robins
Eastern Phoebes
Carolina Wrens
White-crowned Sparrows
Baltimore Orioles

We have an Eastern Phoebe who returns to the same nest on a window under our front porch every year. It's always fun to watch these little guys grow, and then just disappear one day. This year, an Oriole has decided to build a nest on a tree just out from our screened-in-porch, above the kids play area.  It has been fun watching them build the nest.

Unfortunately, I would have to climb REALLY high into the tree, and balance on a VERY small limb to be able to get a picture of the eggs, or little ones, inside the nest!  We'll just have to be satisfied watching all the activity outside of the nest.
