Check out these sweet Lego cash registers:
Since we were going to do both in the same day, we started in the aquarium. That way once we had made our way through, the kids could spend as much time as they wanted in Lego Land.
Grant's finger on camera!
Here Julia is talking away, and making friends with one of the friendly staff members at the aquarium.
The aquarium was very nice, and we really enjoyed it, but the kids were ready to get into Lego Land!
You enter a "Lego Factory" first where you see how Lego's are made.
After that, you can see how much you weigh in Lego bricks.
As you move on, you come to the first ride.
Then you can sit in on a Lego Master Builder class. We learned how to make turtles. After you put together your turtle you could buy it. All the kids wanted to buy theirs, of course. We caved since a portion of the proceeds went to a charity.
You can also ride a second ride were you are in the dark in a car and can "shoot" at the bad guys. We were lucky to go on a day when they weren't very busy, so the kids got to ride this ride about three times. We also stopped off in a large area that had an indoor playground, a Lego "Friends" area (below is Johanna with one of the "Friends" girls), and a place where you could build race cars and then race them on tracks.
They also had a Duplo Lego Playground for little ones.
I think all the grown-ups would agree that their favorite part was the Lego Mini Kansas City. It was awesome! It was the city complete with working fountains, cars driving on the roads, accidents with police cars and ambulances on scene, the race track, baseball stadium and football stadium-to name a few. They even set the lights to a timer, so they would be on for daytime, and then dim down for nighttime.
They even had a Wizard of Oz section complete with the house getting sucked up into the tornado, and the melting witch. When you pushed the button in front of the house, a projector would show a tornado on the wall, and a fan would kick out some wind as the house raised up off the ground. The girls loved this, and pushed the button many times.
Once we were able to drag the kids outside, Grant couldn't keep his eyes off these fountains.
Hhmm...I wonder if Mom will let me run through these...
Yes! Here I go!
Whoo-Hoo! Can I do it again?
(And he did, a couple times.)
A trip to Kansas City would not be complete without eating BBQ. We choose this famous restaurant. It certainly lived up to it's name!
We had a great day!
