We had a day filled with fun surprises! First, we had a little visitor who turned over furniture, knocked over chairs, moved the kids chairs around, left green footprints all over the kitchen (Grant remarked how the footprints looked just like green paint, and later how he thought I must have done it because the footprints were only in the kitchen. He said if they were from the leprechaun, they would have been everywhere. I think he may be catching on...), turned pictures upside down, left green water in the toilets, and turned the milk green we used for our oatmeal. He was nice enough to leave each of the kids a gold foil wrapped chocolate coin.
I recorded a short video to show you all of the leprechaun tricks, but it wouldn't upload onto the post, so you'll just have to use your imagination!
On our morning walk, Grant and Johanna both found a four-leaf clover. Grant is like a four-leaf-clover magnet! He found 8 or 9 of them last year.
We also built a leprechaun trap in the sandbox before we headed into the school room. We didn't catch a leprechaun, but he did leave more chocolate.
After reading our St. Patrick's Day book during school, we had a snack of green fruit salad with a little bit of sweetened whipped cream.
Later in the afternoon, we had a leprechaun treasure hunt with the kids finding colored shamrocks with clues that led them to treasure boxes filled with more chocolate coins and sun catchers for them to paint. (I thought I took more photos of this, but when I was taking some photos at the end of the hunt, I realized I didn't have my memory card in my camera. Nice one, Mom!)
For dinner we had corned beef with potatoes and cabbage. The homemade horseradish sauce is what really topped it off! I also made some gluten-free, dairy-free Irish Soda Bread with almond flour to go with it. Yummy! The kids ate like they hadn't eaten all day, OK, except for maybe Julia. She ate it, but not quite as enthusiastically as everyone else!
Grant, Johanna, and Julia also drew St. Patty's day pictures.
Here is Johanna's. It is a leprechaun with his pot of gold:

Here is Julia's picture. Can you see the leprechaun in there??
What a fun day!
