Tough Mudder 2013

On Saturday, September 14th, Cory participated in the 12 mile run/obstacle course called the Tough Mudder with a team of friends and his brother, Andy. I opted out of the experience since army crawling through mud while getting shocked is really not my idea of fun.  Cory had a good time, and so did most of the other people on his team. The had a beautiful day to get down and dirty!

The kids and I arrived at the course after they had already completed a few miles and obstacles.  We caught up with them right before they were getting ready to take on the mud mile obstacle.  I took this picture of the team then. Still relatively clean, but wet because they just jumped into a big tank of ice water.

In this obstacle, they had to climb over many mounds of mud.  The kids and I got up close and personal so I could get some good pictures.

Unfortunately, we got a little to close and Julia got a face full of mud as one of the people swung their leg over the mound.  The below picture was taken after Grant helped her wipe most of it off. I don't think it was exactly the welcome Julia was hoping for.

Go Team Hapkido Plus!

Post-obstacle photo.  They are a little bit more mud covered.

The next obstacle was the fun one!  They got to crawl through mud, and get shocked, all at the same time.  Lucky devils.

These guys seem a little too happy after just getting shocked multiple times.

I think they're saying, "That was awesome, let's do that again!"

Now the team had a couple miles of running/jogging/walking to complete before their next obstacle.

The kids and I had our own mini Tough Mudder as we trudged through weeds, and then scaled a barb wire fence trying to find our way to the next obstacle.  We made it, phew, and found these guys, who we referred to as, "The Mud Makers", getting the obstacle nice and sloppy.

Yes, there are even crazy people who dress up in costume to do the Tough Mudder.

In the below obstacle, they had to crawl through underground trenches.

Hey Grant, how about a big muddy hug??

Look how muddy I am.  Yay, Fun!

Last, but not least, the Electroshock Therapy Obstacle.  This time the teams got to run through muddy water while being shocked multiple times.  Most of the people were not able to stay on their feet and ended up face-planting in the mud at least a couple times. Some people just gave up trying to stay on their feet, and crawled through the obstacle.  What the heck?  It's all in good fun.

Ready...set....Go!

Immediately after the last obstacle, they are given a shirt, a head band and a beer.  After that, they could shower on premises and hang out and drink more beer and buy more stuff, if they wanted.

Cory and I hosted a "recovery party" for his team.  We grilled lots of meat and served lots of drinks as everyone was limping around in their self-inflicted pain and exhaustion.  I will say though, there was very little complaining.

Themed drink and desserts, of course!

Everyone on the team should have been very proud of their accomplishment! I was proud of them!
