Happy St. Patrick's Day

Last week we were celebrating St. Patrick's Day and the Spring Equinox.

On Monday, we went on a clover hunt and brought some back with us to make clover suncatchers.  I also told the kids a fun story about a fairy queen and four leaved-clovers.

On Tuesday, Grant did some copy work on a poem by Wordsworth after circle time and penny whistle lessons.  This week Paco is helping to teach the kids a Spanish song with the days of the week.  We also painted four leaved-clovers using wet-on-wet watercolor painting.  Grant and Johanna also painted shamrocks.

We also got the Easter decorations out, and the kids wanted to wear their bunnies ears most of the day.

On Wednesday we spent a lot of time outside in the morning.  When we came in, I read them an Irish story, and we talked about St. Patrick and how he used the three leaves of the clover to represent the Holy Trinity and spread the gospel throughout Ireland.  We also made rainbow cupcakes. As you can see, Johanna was still very much into wearing the bunny ears.

Grandma and Grandpa Webb also arrived for a visit on Wednesday.  For dinner we had corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, and our rainbow cupcakes.  Grant, Johanna and I made the butter for our bread by shaking cream in a jar until it turned into butter.  It was yummy!

On Thursday, Grandma and Grandpa went on our morning walk with us (Johanna wore her bunny ears again.)  Julia was having fun imitating Grandma.

In school, we did some new Spring circle time songs and verses, worked on learning the days of the week in Spanish with Paco and did our penny whistle lesson.  In addition to doing a fun jump roping verse, I also had Grant tell me the Spanish names of the week while he was jumping.  After that, I told the kids a spring story about a little brown bulb and then we made birds out of beeswax.  Grant looked a little more like a stringray, but hey, he did his best.

Once we were done with our birds, Grant did some more copy work and then he did a lot of reading.

We also started soaking some wheat grass seeds that we will plant in dirt tomorrow and then put them on our nature table and watch it grow.

On Thursday afternoon, Grant, Johanna, and Julia went on a "pot of gold" treasure hunt.   They followed the rainbow ribbon until they reached a pot of goodies.

Their favorite by far was the white chocolate candies wrapped in gold foil.
