The Signs of Spring

This week welcomed us with a cold and rainy Monday. I used this morning to unpack, do laundry and put away all the suitcases from our Easter trip. Father sun came out of hiding on Tuesday and the weather was much nicer. Tuesday and Wednesday I read more stories about Tiptoes Lightly and her friends and then the kids painted and made drawings from the stories. Julia is making school time a little more interested, as she no longer stays in one spot on her blanket on the rug. She has become mobile! It is not quite a full-out crawl, yet. More like an army crawl. Grant started to build a train track on the floor, but soon discovered that Julia was not about to leave it in one piece. I also had to stop reading our story three times to get up and keep Julia from pulling a plant over on herself. It looks like it is time to re-arrange some things in the schoolroom. Julia's 5th and 6th teeth have come in, and I don't think the others will be far behind. She has sat up on her own a few times, and she has also become very fond of the "side bridge" position, and does it a lot as she is exploring her great big world.

We took advantage of the nice weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, and spent some time outside before lunch. The signs of Spring are everywhere. The fruit trees are in full bloom, the robins are hopping around looking for worms, everyday plants and flowers are emerging a little more, the bluebirds are nesting in the bird houses, the turkey vultures are circling the barn which means they have returned to their nest in the hay loft, and our friend the phoebe has once again taken up her nest on the front porch. In years past we have tried to knock it down, but they just rebuild it. So, now we welcome them and overlook the bird poop all over the front porch.

Grandma and Grandpa Hedberg came out on Saturday and brought the kids another Easter basket. They also went on another Easter Egg hunt. Needless to say, I think the kids got their fill of Easter candy this year!
