Unfortunately, Cory had to meet us there as he flew in from Charlotte coming from a funeral of a good friend. That left Mom and the three kids to make the four hour drive up. It was not a bad drive, but it does get pretty boring for the driver when there is no one to talk to, and you are listening to the sounds of kid's movies. Regardless of that, we all made it there safely and enjoyed our weekend with family. Grant spent the weekend with his cousin, the grown-ups got out for a day of sight seeing and shopping in the town of Kalona, Iowa (thank you babysitter), gift shops were visited, water parks were played at, swimming pools were swam in, the hot tub was enjoyed, Iowa chops and potato salad were eaten, and Cory and I took advantage of a mall being right down the street to do some clothes shopping.

Hhmm, Do I really want to go in there?
I'll just play in this dirty water right here.
Let's see who will go first...
That wasn't so bad
We left early on Monday morning because Cory wanted to get home so he could mow, but when we got about 30 minutes from home, we were hit with a major down pour and mowing was no longer an option. We arrived back to a wet, muggy, hot Truxton, MO filled with anticipation of finding a large harvest of red, ripe strawberries waiting for us. Visions of strawberry shortcake and freezer jam danced in our heads. Our visions were soon filled with a zero harvest of red, ripe strawberries, or even of unripe green ones as a matter of fact. Thieves were in our mist, and our whole crop had been picked clean. The likely culprit: RACCOONS. They do love berries, you know, and corn, and fish, and toads, and snakes, and bird seed, and..........many other things. The little buggers.
We unpacked, started some laundry and settled into a good night's sleep in our own beds. That night as we went to sleep, the croaks and chirps of our myriad of frogs and toads was almost deafening.
